Update

Sunday 22nd August

A wonderful day spent stitching at the incomparable Hampton Court Palace.

Hampton Court Palace

I managed to make some progress on part of my Goldwork Phoenix but another section will have to be redone – ho hum, such are the joys of embroidery.

Tuesday 24th August

The final training day for our 13 mile hike over the Brecon Beacons in aid of Alzheimer’s due to take place, at last, on the 4th September.

A bit blustery today but the scenery is stunning whatever the weather. Fingers crossed it is dry on the day.

My first post

Hello,

My name is Kathryn and I am currently studying for an MA in Contemporary Craft with Hereford College of Arts.

I decided to enrol on the course as I wanted to find a way to consolidate my interests in botanical art and embroidery and develop a more definite framework for my ‘art’ to take it from the realms of being a hobby and transform it into a professional creative practice. This is the story of my journey.

My starting point is the Certificate and Diploma Course in Technical Hand Embroidery run by the Royal School of Needlework. I am currently following the Certificate Course which is comprised of modules in Jacobean Crewelwork, Blackwork/Canvass work, Silk Shading and Goldwork. I have completed the Crewelwork and Blackwork modules and have started the remaining two.
